You know it’s a bad sign when it takes a full week to recover from the end of the season and record a podcast… and then it takes over a month to finally put that podcast online! All apologies, but that Game 81 loss kind of crushed our spirits for a while there.
In this triple-length episode, Keith and Sean take stock of the 2014-15 LA Kings season. Sean attempts to talk Keith down off the ledge as they discuss the significance of the Kings missing the playoffs (just after winning the Cup!), and what this means for the current legacy. They give the entire season a three-period breakdown–including a patented Keith “theory of brilliance.” They also look ahead, briefly cheering themselves up thinking about the draft (and fantasizing about landing the number 1 pick), before agonizing over what to do with Mike Richards and free agents in the off-season.
But for just a little while longer, we are still the Stanley Cup Champions!
Friend of the podcast, Richard of Calgary, joins Keith to record an episode live from a fine dining establishment while the Kings play the Sharks on TV behind them.
Enjoy their midseason review of the Flames and Kings seasons, the state of the Pacific Division, and the ambience of a local watering hole. Edits galore as we cut around the loudspeaker of a trivia night; fortunately the Irish accent makes the interruptions bearable.
A groundbreaking (or water-displacing?) episode with plenty of firsts: Sean and Keith chat in person, in a pool, with beverages, and a guest dog. They catch up on NHL news–unsigned RFAs, expansion rumors, rule changes–before getting into in-depth, division-by-division predictions for the 2014-15 season.
P.S. Our apologies to Sabres fans, but let’s face it: Buffalo is pretty forgettable these days.
Another special guest! Richard, of Calgary, discusses his take on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the plight of his Flames past and present, and the mutual bond that is Darryl Sutter.
Keith and Richard also relive their shared experiences during the Kings 2014 Stanley Cup run, as we have been reviewing throughout the month of August, and look forward with a preview of the 2014-15 season.
It’s true. The more we do this podcast, the better it gets.
(And not just because we stopped eating pizza while recording.)
Our first guest from enemy (Shark) territory, Dan, joins Keith as they discuss the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, East-West bias, and “General Hockey.” This helps sets the table for the second half of their discussion–coming up in a following podcast episode–in which they review 2014 Sharks-Kings Round 1 Series.
Our second formal podcast of the 2014 Offseason was so magnificent we had to split it in two.
Also titled: “The Year Everyone Tried to Become the Kings” this episode is special for so many reasons. Robin joins hosts Sean and Keith for the first but (hopefully) not last time, we catch up on the week in Kings transactions, and free agency signings plus trades are broken down.
And of course: We talk Dustin Penner (and maybe impersonate Pierre McGuire).
