Episode 36: Total Richards Recall

Long form, because this is several weeks of Kings chatter crammed into one episode!

Sean and Keith discuss the wild, wild West, the restoration of Mike Richards to the LA family, and the current New York road trip. Keith has a bone to pick with NHL standings, Sean crystal balls potential playoff matchups, and they digress into the GM proposal of revised overtime rules.

And what podcast wouldn’t be complete without a discussion of Nintendo Ice Hockey.

P.S. Congrats Scotty!

Episode 34 2/3: In-game Stadium Series with Dan

Super Three-Part Episode!

PART TWO: Sharks Fan Dan returns to the podcast to provide an intermission analysis of the Kings-Sharks Stadium Series face-off with Keith. They discuss the tense first two periods, the overall atmosphere of the event, and the implications of this game for San Jose moving forward.

2014 Cup Run: Round 1, Game 7

Here it is! The seminal Game 7 of Round 1, winner take all!

Who will win? What suspense!

Keith had the good fortune to attend this game in San Jose with Sharks Fan Dan (and it was amazing!)

You can follow the drama and suspense leading up to the game, during, and after, with the text feed below. We even make reference to the text feed in the text feed, that’s how meta we get. Special guest Brian, of Hartford Whaler fandom, makes his first appearance, and will return later in the text feed.

Finally, a link for today: In case you don’t already follow Puck Daddy, we highly recommend heading over to Yahoo Sports to read their constantly-updating, continually-comical hockey thread. This is a particularly appropriate time to mention it, considering editor Greg Wyshynski’s entertaining bet with Kings mascot Bailey on who would win this series.

April 30

10:59am

Sean:
Niemi in net tonight.
Keith:
Awesome.

4:58pm

Keith:

Look how far we’ve come. I’ve had a lot of pleasure going back through our texts since this series started and seeing the evolution.

Sean:

I just went through our text too. We should publish this s___.

[Game time]

7:47pm

Keith:

What do you think?

Sean:
That the Sharks are pushing a lot, not necessarily dictating the pace but getting the better chances. You?

Keith:

I think we’ve won every face off, and seem to be playing our style of game. Sharks have had some quirky chances, but overall I think we look better. Need to throw more pucks on net though.

8:05pm

Sean:

Go_ ____it

8:14pm

Sean:
____ YEAH!!

Keith:

Thank god.

I’m liking this.

8:28pm

Sean:
Good kill.

Keith:

Great glove.

Couldn’t tell—have these been legit hooking penalties?

Sean:

The Dwight King call was marginal.

That was a legit call. Lewis has to keep moving his feet.

8:45pm

Sean:
Williams to Koptiar. OF COURSE.

Keith:

Lord K.

[8:46pm

Brian:
Even I’m stressed by all these penalties

Keith:

[Selfie of Dan and Keith at game together]

This is what stressed looks like.

Who are you pulling for Brian?

8:54pm

Brian:

I love Kopitar. Go Kings!]

9:15pm

Sean:

Once again: I got two words for you. And the both start with T.

Keith:

Such a sick play. I don’t think Pearson is ever going back to the minors.

Sean:
Nor should he. What a pass!

Keith:
I can’t believe this.

Sean:
Still a lot of hockey left to play. Gotta lock this ____ down

9:24pm

Keith:
Great kill.

I think we should stop tempting fate and just stay out of the ____ing box.

9:45pm

Sean:

And there it is.

Keith:

Who next? Gaborik?

Sean:

How many people left in the stadium?!

Keith:

Lots. And they’re all Kings fans.

Sean on April 21: “Oh, no one is going to help. We are absolutely going to lose this series. Our only hope is to go down with dignity.

Sean:
Keith on April 21: “This might have ruined my 2014

Keith:
Keith on April 30: This may have made my decade.

Episode 9: Sharks Fan Dan (Part II)

Pardon the interruption–Part Two with our special guest!

Sharks Fan Dan and Keith pick up the conversation to talk further about the collapse of the Sharks/ascendancy of the Kings in the first round of 2014. They discuss the fallout for San Jose in the offseason–from potential trades to firing broadcasters to hiring ice girls–and that quintessential winning ingredient: character.

Plus: BONUS QUESTIONS!

(P.S. Calling Drew Doughty by any other first name–like “Sam Doughty”–is an inside joke, so don’t have a cow)

Episode 7: Sharks Fan Dan (Part I)

It’s true. The more we do this podcast, the better it gets.

(And not just because we stopped eating pizza while recording.)

Our first guest from enemy (Shark) territory, Dan, joins Keith as they discuss the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, East-West bias, and “General Hockey.” This helps sets the table for the second half of their discussion–coming up in a following podcast episode–in which they review 2014 Sharks-Kings Round 1 Series.

Episode 4: Kings v. Blackhawks… forever (Part I)

The twin contract extensions (8 years, $84 million each) of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane provide us a reason to talk about our favorite topic: the Los Angeles Kings.

Namely, we go into the ripple effect these contracts ($8.5 annual cap hit) will have on future free agents, what should be valued in signing young stars, and if we’d rather have anyone over Anze Kopitar.

And somehow we manage to weave in Dustin Penner.
