Episode 39: Previewing the 2015-16 Kings

Seanny-hockey on the spot! We cut in (podcast)live to L.A. correspondent Sean to get the latest scoop on the Kings just before they begin the 2015-16 season.

After catching up on the mirthless news regarding Slava Voynov and Mike Richards, Keith and Sean dive into the on-ice excitement that is the Kings preseason. Like… injuries to starting defensemen Muzzin and Greene. Sean catches Keith up on the play of new additions like Ehrhoff and Lucic, they debate what line truly is Number One, and go through young prospects like Weal and Mersch that have impressed in the preseason.

And what podcast would be incomplete without playing some end-of-summer Armchair GM (Kopitar Kontract? Opening Day Roster? Waiver wire and trades?)

Episode 33: Bad Times, Good Times

What happens after a several week hiatus, when a pitiful L.A. losing slump shifts gears into a sustained winning streak? Keith and Sean go longform!

Enjoy the last episode before the big Stadium Series game, which they preview, as Sean and Keith assess the Kings’ play from front to back, play armchair GM, and do some of their patented three-period analysis (among other witty banter).

Episode 24: Quick to Shutout

Second half of Keith, Sean, and Robin’s chat takes a much lighter tone.

They delve into Jonathan Quick doing this 2012 thing, favorite pairings, and Robin puts Keith and Sean’s enthusiasm in check about That 70s Line.

Keith answers Sean’s Most Important Question of the Season, to which Sean replies: “I don’t think we have ever agreed on something as hardcore as we agree on this.”

Episode 22: Won and one and wan

Keith and Sean reflect on the first week of the young season, a few games removed from L.A.’s opening day ceremony, with the Kings sporting a 1-1-1 record. Keith can’t let the subject of the Sharks die, so the two dwell on the wreckage of rivals, before they leapfrog over the Coyotes to discuss the Jets game.

Using Sean’s patented Three Period game breakdown, they dissect how the game was won, constructive criticisms, and standout players from both squads. Tangents include favorite Kings, new favorite Kings, Lewis 2.0 and goaltending controversies.

Before the final horn sounds, Robin CHIMES in from her favorite spot too. Unlike the Kings, the trio are 3-0-0 in hilarity for this episode.

Episode 21: It begins with a hanging

Oof.

Sean and Keith get together to recap the good, the bad, and the very ugly from the opening night of the Kings 2014-15 season, in which Los Angeles raised their second Stanley Cup banner. They dissect highlights–a descending Stanley Cup–and a myriad of lowlights in their new three period format. And Robin drops in to provide her take on the evening… and a Pancakes update.

Episode 19: Splitmode Squad

2014-15 portends big things… for this podcast. Sean, Keith AND Robin are all together to watch the Kings first preseason game of the new season, and record an in-person episode before, during, and after the game.

They discuss questions surrounding the Kings going into the season–Slava Voynov’s defensive partner, Mike Richard’s line, and potential new additions to the roster–whilst navigating traffic. They battle arena sounds to evaluate the young prospects. And they wrap up in spite of a variety of distractions to consider best-case and worst-case scenarios for the season ahead.

Episode 11: Duck, Duck, Duck, Kings!

As the Roots sing: Duck down!

Continuing their August review of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Sean and Keith recap Round 2, when the Kings vanquished the Anaheim Ducks to take the throne of California.

They discuss lowlights (Gibson!), highlights (GIB SON!!), and of course, Dustin “Playoff” Penner.
