Episode 38: Dark Days of Summer

End of June, end of July (end of August!?)–what’s the difference for the 2015 Los Angeles Kings?

It has been a busy offseason, but for all the wrong reasons for armchair GMs like yours truly. Sean and Keith do an admirable job recapping the ugly, the bad, and the occasional good. Tune in for a rapid-fire rundown of: the Jones-Lucic trade, the Williams departure, the Sekera contract, the 2015 Draft, the Voynov cesspool, the Richards scandal, the Stoll kerfuffle, the Ehrhoff signing, defensive pairings, the Toffoli re-signing, the Kopitar non-signing, and the apex: the addition of Jhonas Enroth.

Episode 37: The Reckoning

Yeesh. Is it over yet?

You know it’s a bad sign when it takes a full week to recover from the end of the season and record a podcast… and then it takes over a month to finally put that podcast online! All apologies, but that Game 81 loss kind of crushed our spirits for a while there.

In this triple-length episode, Keith and Sean take stock of the 2014-15 LA Kings season. Sean attempts to talk Keith down off the ledge as they discuss the significance of the Kings missing the playoffs (just after winning the Cup!), and what this means for the current legacy. They give the entire season a three-period breakdown–including a patented Keith “theory of brilliance.” They also look ahead, briefly cheering themselves up thinking about the draft (and fantasizing about landing the number 1 pick), before agonizing over what to do with Mike Richards and free agents in the off-season.

But for just a little while longer, we are still the Stanley Cup Champions!

Episode 33: Bad Times, Good Times

What happens after a several week hiatus, when a pitiful L.A. losing slump shifts gears into a sustained winning streak? Keith and Sean go longform!

Enjoy the last episode before the big Stadium Series game, which they preview, as Sean and Keith assess the Kings’ play from front to back, play armchair GM, and do some of their patented three-period analysis (among other witty banter).

Episode 32: See You, Rick

Keith and Sean reconnect in the midst of the Kings’ winter doldrums to talk about the big story of the week.

They dance around the obvious with discussions of analytics and the Sutters at the All Star Game before delving into the stunning news that Mike Richards, a favorite King of Sean’s, has cleared waivers. What does it all mean?!

Episode 29: BONUS HOLIDAY SPECIAL

Happy holidays!

What better way to celebrate the 2014 holiday season than by taking a vacation! That’s right, the Kings of Kings have been on an extended break for about a month now, but we’ve returned to bring you a holiday special.

On December 16, Keith and Sean recorded a whole podcast while watching (nearly) the entirety of the Blues-Kings game. Sync up the game if you can and enjoy this as something like a Director’s Commentary track to the game, or simply consume it as several weeks worth of podcasts rolled into one.

Episode 28: American Thanksgiving

It’s been too long–but isn’t that how it always feels?

Sean and Keith had the good fortune to watch a game in person, which the Kings had the poor fortune to lose to those brutal Blackhawks. Sean gives his patented game breakdown and they review the state of the NHL at the 25-game mark.

Episode 24: Quick to Shutout

Second half of Keith, Sean, and Robin’s chat takes a much lighter tone.

They delve into Jonathan Quick doing this 2012 thing, favorite pairings, and Robin puts Keith and Sean’s enthusiasm in check about That 70s Line.

Keith answers Sean’s Most Important Question of the Season, to which Sean replies: “I don’t think we have ever agreed on something as hardcore as we agree on this.”
